Coaches Biographies
Jim Hughes-Varsity Head Coach
2019 will mark the 47th year for Jim as a high school head baseball coach, the last 32 at Franklin. He spent 33 years teaching, coaching, and directing athletics at Milwaukee Washington High school before retiring in 2002. While coaching at Franklin, Jim has amassed 799 wins, 11 conference titles, 18 regional titles, 10 sectional titles, 2 state runner-ups, and 2 state titles. Jim is currently the winningist high school baseball coach in Wisconsin with 918 career wins. His coaching resume includes several coach of the year honors, including being named the National Federation of High School Coaches 2011 Sectional Coach of the Year. For his accomplishments, Jim has been inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the Wisconsin Old Time Ball Players Hall of Fame, and the Franklin High School Wall of Fame. His specific coaching duties include coaching third base and working with the pitchers and infielders. He enjoys watching old movies, sports, playing cards, and attending his grand kids activities. Jim and his wife Judy will celebrate 52 years of marriage this August. They have called Franklin their home for the past 45 years. They have 2 grown children, Buck (Mary) and Jenny, and 3 grand children Vince, Parker, and Marysa.
Steve Drobot-Varsity Assistant
Steve will begin his sixth year coaching Saber baseball. He spent 7 years as an assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Muskego High School. Besides his work as a baseball coach, he has also volunteered in a variety of coaching duties in youth sports such as basketball, rugby, and soccer. He is currently a physical education instructor, and head of the physical education department at Franklin High School. He has also coached basketball at the high school and is currently coaching boys basketball at Forest Park Middle School. His Saber baseball coaching duties will include coaching first base, and working with the catchers and outfielders. Steve was instrumental in helping our 2015 and 2017 squads reach the state tournament. During his spare time, he enjoys playing for the Milwaukee Barbarian Rugby Club, playing recreational softball and basketball, volunteering for the boys and girls clubs of Milwaukee, fishing, playing cards, and cheering on the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, and Badgers. Steve resides in Muskego with his wife Abby, their daughters Lacey and Daisy, newly born son Fielder, and dog Lexi and cat Reilly. Steve has been, and will continue to be, a vital part of our success.
Jordan Stephans-JV Coach
Jordan will begin his fourth season coaching Saber baseball. His coaching duties will include coaching the JV baseball team and assisting the varsity with the infield and hitting. Jordan spent 3 years as an assistant baseball coach at his alma mater, Hartford Union High School. Besides his work as a baseball coach, he has been an assistant football coach at Hartford and Waukesha South High Schools, and is currently a member of our outstanding football coaching staff. Jordan was an established baseball player earning All-State high school honors. He went on to play baseball and football at Carroll University, where he earned his degree in physical education. Jordan is currently a physical education instructor at Country Dale Elementary School. During his spare time, he enjoys continuing his baseball career as a member of the Hartford Hawks, a team in the Rock River League. He also enjoys fishing, attending sporting events, and rooting on the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers. He currently lives in Menomonee Falls with his wife Mallory. They are expecting their first child in July. Jordan has been, and will continue to be, a vital part of our success.
Matthew Wood-JV 2 Coach
Matthew will be entering his first year as a Franklin baseball coach. He is currently in his second year as a special education teacher at Pleasant View Elementary School in Franklin. While growing up in Greendale, he participated in multiple sports at the high school level including baseball, football, and golf. Matthew spent the last two years working for the Franklin Recreation Department officiating various sports. During his spare time, he enjoys golfing, playing softball, exercising, and reading a good sports biography. He resides in Greendale with his dog Briggs. We anxiously await to see Matthew's contributions to the Saber baseball program.
